WRITING CLASSES, ONLINE WRITING COURSES & RETREATS

Sarah Armstrong and Alan Close run a popular online writing course, as well as an annual writing retreat and face-to-face writing classes.

If you have an idea or existing project, Sarah and Alan will offer support and encouragement as well as practical guidance in the form of detailed constructive feedback each week. You can also find your story idea during the course. You need nothing but a desire to write.

Their eight-week online writing course gives you a weekly deadline to meet, as well as careful, one-to-one feedback on your work. You will also be sent two emails a week, with practical advice and writing exercises on issues such as character, setting, plot and rewriting.

I have learnt more in eight weeks [of online writing classes] than I have in seven years of attending courses, writing groups and reading books/websites dedicated to the topic. I loved how the feedback was always professional and kind, while honest and constructive at the same time. Reading the feedback always gave me the sense of being in 'good hands' and I instantly got a sense of where I was 'at'. Kelly Maltman

Sarah's novel, Salt Rain was shortlisted for three national literary awards: the 2005 Miles Franklin Literary Award, the 2005 Queensland Premier's Literary Award and the 2005 Dobbie Award. While working at the ABC, she won a Walkley Award.
